Book Spotlight: Lichgates (The Grimoire Saga, Book 1) by SM Boyce

Bonjour Beardies,

I started reading this title back in November, originally as part of a blog tour; unfortunately, due to my schedule, I missed the blog tour. I promised the author, SM Boyce, however, that I would still to do a Book Spotlight on each of the books in the series (so far there are two, but there are four total planned). Lichgates is the first book of The Grimoire Saga, and is the subject of this Spotlight.

Interview with Alainna Sarver

Bonjour Beardies,

I am excited to bring you the first of two interview posts to introduce our two new Guest Scribes.  The first, Alainna Sarver, is a fellow Alma College alumnus and bibliophile.  The second, Hannah Lesniak, is Elizabeth's colleague and friend; her interview and introduction post, presented by Elizabeth, will follow soon.

Alainna has been a Beardie for several months now, but it was her Goodreads updates that prompted me to invite her to the blog.  With every post, it seemed, was a new book she was currently reading, and so, with a quick message via Facebook, the invitation was submitted.  She was hesitant at first, doubting her writing talents, but I convinced her that I would help every step of the way.  Also, upon reading her bio, I have no doubt in my mind that she was downplaying her writing ability.

Book Spotlight: Death Watch (The Undertaken Trilogy, Book One) by Ari Berk

Hello Beardies,

I can't begin to describe how excited I am to bring you this Spotlight on Death Watch, one that has been long over-due and in the works since the blog's inception a little over a year ago.  As many of you well know, my alma mater is Alma College, but it is not the only college I attended...

After leaving Alma in the second term of my third year, I moved just fifteen minutes north to Mount Pleasant, home of Central Michigan University. It is upon enrolling part-time—with Jeremiah's encouragement—that I met the author of today's Book Spotlight, Dr. Ari Berk and his wonderful wife, Kristen.

Reading is a Writer's Strongest Tool

You hear it all the time...

In order to become a great writer, you must first read.

Well, Beardies, it's true. A carpenter cannot build a house if they do not possess a hammer; a seamstress isn't much of a seamstress without a needle and thread; and a writer is not a writer without knowledge of the written word.

To write well, you must first know how one does so. The strongest tool a writer can put in their library (or bag of tricks if you're Hermione Granger) is a heaping stack of well-written masterpieces by the world's best authors. And the more you read, the more gems you can gather for your own writing.

Although I prefer a hardbound book over a tablet, a tablet is the only equivalent of having a magical bag to hold all your books. Now, your chance to win one is here!

Joe Warnimont is hosting a giveaway on his blog... you can win a Kindle Fire HD of your very own by simply visiting his page and entering the giveaway (FREE of charge!).
