Book Spotlight: Heritage (The Grimoire Saga, Book 3) by SM Boyce

Bonjour, Beardies!

Yesterday I featured a Book Spotlight on Treason, the second installment of SM Boyce's Grimoire Saga, and today the I am excited to announce that the third installment, Heritage, releases today! Let's begin, shall we?

Premise:
Kara Magari isn’t normal, even by Ourea’s standards—and in a world of shape-shifters and soul stealers, that’s saying something. To the royalty, she’s a loose cannon. To the masses, she’s a failure. But Kara’s arrival in Ourea started a war, and she’s going to end it.
An ancient isen named Stone takes an interest in Kara’s training, and it turns out he has more answers than he originally led her to believe. In an effort to unearth a secret that might end the bloodshed, Kara instead discovers an ugly truth about her family—and how much she has in common with an infamous mass-murderer.
Braeden Drakonin has slowly rebuilt his life after the betrayal that tore it apart. His father wants him dead, and frankly, his so-called allies wouldn’t mind that either. Private alliances are formed. Secrets are sold. Tension is driving the armies apart. A single battle will end this war, and it’s coming. Braeden may be a prince, but it will take more than that to survive. He must take the fight to his father’s door—and win.

Gems for Writers:
World Building. Surprise, surprise—you guessed it! I know I've said this about Boyce's other books already, but it's true of this one as well. Just when I think I've learned all of Ourea's secrets, Boyce delivers more!

Cast of Villains. This isn't your typical good versus evil book; there's not one protagonist and one antagonist, either. In the previous books, we've grown to love the motley crew of “good guys,” and in this book we truly love to hate Boyce's cast of villains. What makes the villains even more villainous is that they all have there own intentions, their own aspirations of power—so despite working together for the greater...evil..they turn on each other just as quickly as they do the flipside of characters.

Epilogue. I am not usually a fan of Epilogues unless it's the last book of the series, but Boyce teases us with a doozie of one at the end of this book. (Do I really have to wait another year to read the final installment?!?) Sorry, no spoilers. You'll have to grab your own copy and find out the secret for yourself.

Conclusion:
I couldn't put down this book! Treason, I thought, would be hard to surpass, but I was pleasantly surprised at Boyce's ability to deliver yet another great title. I recommend the entire series to any fans of Paolini's Inheritance Cycle or Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia. Whether you're a fan of Urban Fantasy, Epic Fantasy, or even a Romance fan, the Grimoire Saga is for you.

May an Isen never steal your soul,
